OUTPATIENT ADOLESCENT PROGRAMS
ARS provides intensive and non-invasive outpatient treatment for adolescents in 57 licensed and
certified clinics throughout Southern California. The agency provides services to Soledad Enrichment
Action, Inc., bringing substance abuse prevention, education and treatment to youth in 18 charter
schools. These schools are under the umbrella of the Los Angeles County Office of Education
(LACOE). ARS also provides substance abuse services to traditional middle and high schools in Long
Beach Unified and Montebello Unified School Districts. Both of these programs continue to expand
annually in both service area and number of adolescents served.
Through collaborations with the Los Angeles Department of Probation in the California Youth
Authority, ARS offers counseling and case management services to the adolescent population housed in
detention facilities. Group sessions, individual sessions and post-release referral plans are provided to
the adolescents through this program.
In all of the above-mentioned programs ARS utilizes the Essential Elements (E2) curriculum, a series
written by ARS and designed around the following key components:
Substance Abuse Prevention & Education Family Dynamics/Reunification
Relapse Prevention HIV/AIDS Awareness & Prevention
Anger Management Life Skills/Life Issues
Conflict Resolution Coping Skills
The E2 curriculum meets all 9 Health Education Standards as outlined in the Health Framework for
California Public Schools. It was put through a rigorous review and was approved by the LACOE,
Long Beach Unified School District and Montebello Unified School District.
